The Chicago White Sox are having a historically bad 2024 baseball season, with 21 consecutive losses tying an American League record and reaching 100 losses after just 131 games. Interim manager Grady Sizemore took over after the firing of Pedro Grifol. Although the team is on track to break their franchise record for losses in a season at 106, they are not expected to reach the all-time MLB record of 134 losses held by the 1899 Cleveland Spiders. The 1962 New York Mets hold the modern record of 120 losses.
The White Sox are also at risk of recording the worst winning percentage in the modern era, with the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics currently holding the record with a .235 winning percentage. The White Sox’s current winning percentage sits just ahead of that at .237, so they will need to keep an eye on their record in their final 31 games of the season. Despite their struggles, interim manager Grady Sizemore brings a wealth of experience as a retired baseball player, adding an interesting storyline to the team’s difficult season.
