Police in Greenwich arrest woman for allegedly stealing $800,000 from Boy’s and Girl’s Club

A Florida woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $800,000 from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Greenwich. The incident occurred in December 2022 when fraudulent email activity led to a staff member sending a wire transfer of the funds to a bogus account. The email appeared to come from a verified contact requesting the transfer for an Education and Scholarship Fund. However, the money never reached the intended recipient, prompting an investigation that lasted nearly a year.

After months of investigation, local detectives were able to track down the suspect in Florida. She now faces first-degree larceny charges and is being held on a $500,000 bond. The lead detective was also able to recover a significant portion of the stolen funds, which were returned to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. Local police traveled to Florida to arrest the woman on Aug. 21, and she was transported back to Connecticut to appear in court.

The Greenwich Police Department commended the hard work and dedication of their detectives in solving this case and recovering the stolen funds. They also thanked the Boy’s and Girl’s Club for their cooperation throughout the investigation. The incident serves as a reminder for organizations to stay vigilant against fraudulent activity and to double-check any financial transactions to ensure they are legitimate.
