Lake Mary, Florida claimed the Little League World Series championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday, rallying to beat Taiwan 2-1 in eight innings. Taiwan held a 1-0 lead until Florida tied the game in the sixth inning. In the eighth, Lathan Norton scored from second base on an overthrow to give Florida the victory.
This championship win is the first in nine attempts for Florida, who also had a comeback victory in the semifinals. Taiwan, a dominant team in the LLWS in the past, had not made it to the title game since 2009. Lee Cheng-Ta managed both the 2009 team and the current Kuei-Shan Little League team from Taiwan, which made it to the championship game this year.
Florida out-hit and outplayed Taiwan throughout the game, with numerous opportunities to score earlier but couldn’t get runs across until their late rally. DeMarcos Mieses delivered the game-tying hit in the sixth inning, setting the stage for Lathan Norton’s winning run in the eighth.
This victory marks a historic moment for Florida Little League baseball and showcases the team’s resilience and determination. Congratulations to Lake Mary, Florida on their incredible win at the Little League World Series.
