Four individuals, including a police officer, wounded in car accident and alleged stabbings in southern Sydney | New South Wales

A violent incident unfolded after a car crash in Sydney on Sunday morning, resulting in four people being injured, including a police officer. The driver involved in the crash allegedly stabbed his passenger and then lashed out at witnesses and the attending officer who tried to help. The incident occurred at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Old Bush Road in Engadine.

Multiple calls were made to emergency services after the crash, and responding officers found a man with stab wounds fleeing the scene. He was arrested with the use of a Taser, during which a police officer sustained a serious laceration to his wrist. A female passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash was found with multiple wounds, and a fourth person was also injured.

Witnesses, including Cronulla Sharks chairman Steve Mace, described a harrowing scene with the alleged attacker slashing the woman in the car. Mace tried to intervene but was unable to prevent the stabbing. The attacker reportedly expressed fatalistic sentiments and anger over the radio station being changed.

The NSW police minister assured the community that there is no ongoing threat, as the person of interest has been arrested. The Princes Highway was closed in both directions as investigations continued. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated all four injured individuals at the scene. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous situations that can arise from seemingly routine incidents on the road.
