The aftermath of historic flooding in Oxford, Southbury, and surrounding areas is still being felt, with many residents facing devastating damage to their homes. Elizabeth Tsimbidaros, a resident of Southbury, described the flooding as the scariest thing she had ever seen and shared the loss of forty years worth of memories due to the disaster.
Tsimbidaros and many others affected by the flood found hope at the Rebuild Expo in Oxford, where local businesses came together to offer a variety of services to those in need. The event provided information on essential services such as electricity, disaster relief, restoration, and drainage services, connecting residents with resources while they wait for federal, state, and insurance assistance.
Participants at the expo, like Scott Ghavidel of Saga Landscaping LLC, emphasized the ongoing need for help and support in the community. Neumann Electric, for example, sold t-shirts with the proceeds going towards local businesses in Oxford that were hit the hardest by the flooding.
The event showcased the strength and resilience of the community as residents came together to support one another during a challenging time. Tsimbidaros expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, with strangers offering to help clean her basement and neighbors providing shelter and essentials. The unity and generosity displayed at the Rebuild Expo serve as a testament to the community’s spirit as they work towards recovery and rebuilding in the wake of the disaster.
