One person was killed and another injured in a crash on Route 80 near Long Hill Rd. in Guilford, Conn. on Saturday morning, according to the Guilford Police Department. The incident, involving two vehicles, occurred at 11:45 a.m. Emergency services responded to the scene and provided medical attention before transporting both individuals to a local hospital, where the 82-year-old female victim succumbed to her injuries. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The Guilford Police closed Long Hill Rd. near the North Branford town line while the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit conducted an investigation into the cause of the crash. The North Branford Police Department is also assisting in the investigation. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes such as Rt. 1 or County Rd. to avoid the crash site, but by 2:00 p.m. the area had been reopened to traffic.
