Waterbury Police have made recent arrests for illegal operation of ATVs and dirt bikes, including a 14-year-old male and a 23-year-old man. The 14-year-old was caught driving an ATV on Oakwood Avenue, while the 23-year-old was illegally riding a dirt bike on Vermont Street. Both individuals have been charged accordingly. Waterbury officials have been working to address the issue of illegal ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets for months, with a task force and tip line created in 2023 specifically for this problem. In July, the Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance to increase penalties for illegal operations. Police encourage anyone who sees illegal operation of ATVs or dirt bikes in the city to report it.
