The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has announced the reissuing of a temporary alcohol ban for seven state recreation areas. The ban will be in effect through Sunday, Nov. 10. The affected areas include Beach Pond State Boat Launch in Voluntown, Billings Lake State Boat Launch in North Stonington, Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, Lake Waramaug State Park in New Preston, Paugussett State Forest in Southbury, Quaddick State Forest in Thompson, and Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown/Middlefield.
DEEP stated that in recent years there has been an increase in crowds and alcohol consumption at these locations, leading to misconduct, unruly behavior, property damage, trespassing, and complaints. The existing 90-day alcohol ban in Naugatuck State Forest remains in place.
DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes emphasized the importance of responsible outdoor recreation and ensuring that Connecticut’s state parks, forests, and boat launches remain welcoming and family-friendly spaces. The temporary ban aims to address issues with alcohol-related incidents and maintain a safe environment for visitors.
Visitors to these recreation areas are encouraged to comply with the alcohol ban and enjoy the natural beauty of Connecticut’s outdoor spaces responsibly. The DEEP will continue to monitor the situation and work to protect the integrity of these natural areas for all visitors to enjoy.
