Connecticut entrepreneur Matt Corey has won the Republican nomination to run against Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy. Corey, who has previously run for Congress but lost, believes this year is different, citing issues with the economy, affordability, open borders, crime, and potential global conflict. Murphy, who has a significant fundraising advantage, has held the seat since 2012.
Corey, a Navy veteran and small business owner, accuses Murphy of not doing enough for constituents. Meanwhile, in other primary races in Connecticut, Rep. Jahana Hayes will face Republican George Logan in a congressional rematch. Additionally, Republicans in the 4th Congressional District chose a challenger to U.S. Rep. Jim Himes.
Himes, seeking his ninth term, faces challengers Bob MacGuffie and Dr. Michael Goldstein. Republicans have not held a seat in Connecticut’s congressional delegation since 2009. The state’s political landscape is expected to be competitive, with various candidates vying for key positions. The general election is sure to be closely watched as the political dynamics in the state evolve.
