Tropical Storm Ernesto, the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, is currently heading towards the Caribbean and Puerto Rico. The storm quickly developed from an Atlantic front on Monday, following the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Debby on the East Coast. The National Hurricane Center expects Ernesto to pass through the Leeward Islands on Tuesday morning before moving towards the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by Tuesday evening, with a potential to reach hurricane strength by Thursday. The NOAA has predicted an above-normal number of storms for the season, attributing this to near-record warm ocean temperatures in the Atlantic.
