International leaders are calling for de-escalation and stability in the Middle East as the US deploys military vehicles to the region. European leaders Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz, and Keir Starmer have endorsed a plan to end the 10-month Israel-Hamas war, calling for the release of hostages and humanitarian aid.
Mediators are working on a three-phase plan involving the release of hostages by Hamas, a withdrawal of Israeli soldiers from Gaza, and a refraining of retaliatory attacks by Iran and its allies. The leaders emphasize the importance of regional stability and de-escalation, expressing concern over heightened tensions in the region.
Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has stated that Israel is prepared for potential retaliatory strikes from Lebanon and Iran. The US has sent a guided missile submarine to the Middle East, increasing its presence in the region after the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and a senior Hezbollah commander.
The conflict has taken a toll on the region, with nearly 39,897 people dead and over 92,000 wounded in Gaza. Thousands of individuals have fled southern Gaza following Israeli strikes, with the Israeli Defence Force citing rockets fired by Palestinian militants as the reason for the attacks.
The international community continues to work towards peace and stability in the Middle East, urging all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions and lead to all-out war.
