Russia is evacuating tens of thousands of people from its Kursk region, which has been invaded by Ukrainian troops. Ukrainian forces have acknowledged fighting in the Kursk region as part of their efforts to restore justice after Russia’s 2022 invasion. At least 13 people were injured in Kursk after a missile launched by Ukraine hit a residential building. Russia’s defence ministry claims to have prevented further advances by Ukraine into Kursk. The nuclear agency warned of a direct threat to the Kursk nuclear power station.
Belarus reinforced its border with Ukraine due to Ukrainian drones violating its airspace during the incursion into the Kursk region. Ukraine’s navy attacked and damaged a former offshore gas platform used by Russian forces in the Black Sea. Three people were killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine’s Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. One civilian was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian city of Lipetsk. Elsewhere, Ukraine reported fewer combat engagements on its territory since June.
Russia launched an air attack on Kyiv, with air defence systems repelling the strikes. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy pledged to strengthen Ukrainian spiritual independence, indicating a move towards banning the Moscow-linked branch of the Orthodox Church. The conflict continues to escalate, with casualties and damage reported on both sides of the conflict.
