Animal control officials in Woodbridge, Connecticut have rescued dozens of dogs, cats, rabbits, and a guinea pig from a home in poor condition. A total of 23 dogs, 20 cats, seven rabbits, and a guinea pig were seized from the residence. The rescue operation took place after a woman contacted the police seeking to surrender more than a dozen dogs to the shelter.
Upon arriving at the home, officials found the animals in horrid conditions in cages and decided to speak with the pet owner to request the surrender of all the animals. A total of roughly 30 cats still need to be collected from the residence. The pet owner, who has not been identified, faces 22 counts of animal cruelty.
Shelters and rescues in the state have stepped up to help take in some of the rescued animals, but donations of dog and cat food and other supplies are still needed. The chief animal control officer, Jessica Moffo, stated that it was a mess and that the situation should not have happened.
The Woodbridge Regional Animal Control posted updates on the rescue operation on their Facebook page, indicating that the animals are now safe and receiving necessary care. Police and animal control officials are yet to provide further details on the situation.
