Over 40 animals were removed from a single household in Woodbridge, Connecticut, after the owner was charged with Animal Cruelty. Woodbridge Regional Animal Control received a call from the police about a woman wanting to surrender 14 dogs, but ultimately found 23 dogs, 20 cats, seven bunnies, and a guinea pig. The chief animal control officer, Jessica Moffo, estimates there were originally around 70 animals in the home, and plans to rescue more cats on Sunday.
The condition of the animals was described as horrid, with one dog having mats so severe they were cutting off circulation to its leg. All the animals were surrendered to the shelter, causing it to reach full capacity. However, shelters and rescues from neighboring towns stepped in to help, taking in some of the animals and donating food.
Moffo expressed gratitude for the support, stating that “it takes a village and today, a village helped us.” The shelter is now accepting monetary donations and dog and cat food, with the surrendered animals soon to be available for adoption. Those interested in adopting can contact Woodbridge Regional Animal Control for more information. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caring for and protecting animals, and the community coming together to help in times of need.
