Team USA is hanging onto their battle for the most gold medals in Paris following Day 15 of the 2024 Olympics. Despite capturing five Olympic titles on Saturday, including the USWNT claiming gold and the men’s basketball team securing a five-peat, the U.S. still ended the day trailing China by one gold medal. This sets up a tense final half-day of action heading into Sunday’s Closing Ceremony.
One of the highlights of Day 15 was when the USWNT reclaimed gold with another 1-0 win, with Mallory Swanson scoring the only goal in the 57th minute. The men’s basketball team, led by Steph Curry, won their 5th straight gold with an epic 3-point barrage from Curry.
Additionally, the U.S. set records in the men’s and women’s 4x400m relays with both teams winning gold. The men’s relay came down to a final-lap showdown between Rai Benjamin and Letsile Tebogo, with Benjamin securing the victory. Masai Russell also won gold in a photo finish in the women’s 110m hurdles final.
Other notable performances included Brooke Raboutou earning silver in sport climbing, Grant Fisher winning historic 5000m bronze, and Shelby McEwen taking silver in the high jump after a lengthy jump-off.
As the Paris Games come to a close, Team USA is poised for success and looking to finish strong in these last few events.
