Freddie Trone, a man from Los Angeles, was found guilty of sending his 17-year-old son to kill rapper PnB Rock in a jury trial that lasted two weeks. The incident occurred in September of 2022 at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in South Los Angeles, where the rapper was shot during a robbery. Trone was convicted of murder, robbery, and conspiracy charges, while another man, Tremont Jones, was found guilty of robbery and conspiracy charges. Trone’s son, who committed the murder, was deemed incompetent to stand trial as a minor.
The defense argued that Trone was only an accessory after the fact, while prosecutors claimed he had ordered his son to commit the crime. Trone denied any involvement in prompting the killing, stating that he never handed his son a gun or instructed him to shoot the rapper. Despite this, the prosecution argued that Trone’s actions leading up to the murder made him a major participant in the crime.
PnB Rock, whose legal name is Rakim Allen, was known for his hit songs like “Selfish” and collaborations with other artists. The incident shocked the music industry and raised questions about the involvement of Trone in his son’s actions. The defense plans to appeal the verdict, citing lack of evidence connecting Trone to the murder. The prosecution argued that Trone’s presence at the crime scene and interactions with the other accused man indicated his involvement in the robbery and murder.
