Nine people, including at least two from Connecticut, tragically lost their lives when an SUV, carrying 10 passengers, crashed in South Florida. The 2023 Ford Explorer went out of control, hit a guardrail, and flipped into a canal. Among the victims were a 5-year-old and a 21-year-old from Bridgeport, Connecticut, along with other family members. The driver, 56-year-old Pamela Wiggins, and seven other passengers, including a 1-year-old, were also killed in the crash. One passenger was rescued and is in serious condition.
The victims were in Florida for a family birthday party and were on their way to the airport for their flight back to Connecticut. The mother of the 5-year-old victim expressed her shock and grief, recalling her son as a cheerful and daring child. She also mentioned that the rental car they were driving had issues that were reported to the rental company but were not addressed.
The City of Bridgeport expressed condolences for the victims, including a Board of Education custodian among them. The community has come together to support the family by raising funds for funeral expenses. The tragic incident has left relatives and authorities devastated, with a plea for prayers and support during this difficult time. The investigation into the crash continues as the community mourns the loss of their loved ones.
