An incident involving a black BMW and a bag filled with $52,000 in cash has caught the attention of the state police in Plainfield. The incident took place at the Interstate 395 North service plaza when a man was seen tampering with an ATM and looking into parked cars. When troopers arrived on the scene, the man fled across the highway to a black BMW with Pennsylvania plates and sped away, throwing several items out of the car. The troopers recovered a backpack containing the large sum of money, a mobile hotspot, and an iPhone.
Surveillance footage showed at least two individuals in the BMW earlier that morning, with two men matching their descriptions later seen at a gas station. One man used an electronic device to remove money from an ATM, while the other was dressed in different clothing. State police have released images of the suspects and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Patrick O’Brien at (860) 896-3233 or email Patrick.J.Obrien@ct.gov.
The incident has raised questions about the involvement of the individuals in the BMW and the origin of the large sum of money found in the backpack. The investigation is ongoing as state police work to uncover the motives behind the events that took place at the service plaza.
