Authorities in Southbury are seeking information from the public after a newborn kitten was discovered abandoned on the side of the road over the weekend. The kitten was found in a cardboard box on High Meadow Drive, left with a towel and two metal bowls. The incident is part of a troubling trend of roadside animal abandonments in Connecticut this summer, with at least six dogs abandoned in July alone. From a German Shepherd tied to a tree at a horse farm in Southbury to canines left in the woods, tied to poles, or found dead after being thrown from vehicles in various cities across the state, the instances of animal cruelty are alarming. The abandoned kitten in Southbury, who officials described as “orange and white and only a few days old,” is just one of many animals that have been left to fend for themselves in dangerous and harmful situations. Anyone with information regarding the abandoned kitten is urged to contact Southbury Animal Control or the Southbury police department. The authorities hope to find the individual responsible for this heartless act and bring them to justice, as well as raise awareness about the importance of proper animal care and the consequences of abandoning pets.
