Connecticut family sues Greenwich Hospital delivery doctor over infant’s death
A tragic incident occurred in February when a day-old infant named Alexander M. Diaz died from a massive hemorrhage after birth at Greenwich Hospital. The parents, Danielle Mackenzie and Fabrice Diaz, have filed a lawsuit accusing Dr. Jay Matut of vacuuming the newborn’s head excessively during delivery.
The lawsuit alleges that Mackenzie had been pushing for 90 minutes during labor when Dr. Matut recommended a vacuum-assisted delivery. The standard procedure for a vacuum extraction should involve no more than three pulls within 20-30 minutes. However, the complaint states that Matut used the vacuum 15 times on the infant’s head in a prolonged delivery that exceeded the recommended time frame.
Despite the parents’ request for a cesarean section, the lawsuit claims Matut continued with the vacuum extraction, ultimately causing fatal injuries to the newborn. The infant was born with head swelling consistent with bleeding and was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he passed away the following day.
The complaint accuses Dr. Matut, Greenwich Hospital, and Yale New Haven Health Services of negligence, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and recklessness in the infant’s death. The family seeks justice and accountability for the tragic loss of their child due to the alleged malpractice during the delivery process.
