Bicyclist in Killingworth Suffers Severe Head Injuries When Struck by Car


Killingworth, Conn. – Route 80 in Killingworth was temporarily closed for investigation on Saturday afternoon after a serious accident involving a car and a bicycle. The incident occurred at around 12:16 p.m. when a 50-year-old female driver of a Kia Sorento struck a 78-year-old female bicyclist.

The driver was traveling eastbound when she noticed the bicyclist in the right lane. In an attempt to avoid the bicyclist, the driver switched to the westbound lane, but the bicyclist turned into it, resulting in a collision. The bicyclist suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to Hartford Hospital by Life Star helicopter.

State police are asking any witnesses to come forward and provide information about the accident. They can contact State Police’s Troop F at 860-399-2100 to provide details that may help with the investigation.
