One year later, Family of Stamford Pastor Demands Action

The family of Reverand Tommie Jackson, a beloved Stamford pastor killed last July, is calling for justice and accountability as the case of the city officer accused of hitting and killing him continues. Community members, along with Jackson’s family, gathered at the Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church to remember him and discuss ways to hold those responsible for his death accountable. Jackson’s widow, Dorye Jackson, expressed frustration with the lack of progress in the case, emphasizing the void left by her husband’s death in both the family and the community.

Jackson was killed while attempting to cross Wire Mill Road in Stamford after getting the mail when he was struck by 24-year-old Stamford police officer Zachary Lockwood. Lockwood pleaded not guilty to a misconduct with motor vehicle charge, a class D felony. The family’s attorney, Darnell D. Crosland, believes the charge should be more severe and that Lockwood should face consequences, not continue to be paid while on leave.

Crosland is working to move the case from Milford to Bridgeport and secure compensation for the family. The Stamford NAACP is supporting the Jackson family throughout the process. President of the Stamford NAACP, Emma Goings, emphasized the importance of remembering Jackson’s contributions to the community and standing by his family in seeking justice. The Stamford police chief stated that Lockwood is still on paid leave as the investigation continues, and declined to comment further on the case.
