Noah Lyles Clinches 100m Victory in Thrilling Photo Finish at 2024 Olympics – NBC Connecticut

American track star Noah Lyles claimed the title of “the fastest man in the world” after winning gold in a thrilling photo finish in the men’s 100m at the Paris Olympics. In front of a roaring crowd at Stade de France, Lyles edged out Jamaican competitor Kishane Thompson by just 0.005 of a second. Lyles’ sprint was a personal best time of 9.79, securing his first gold medal and becoming the first American to win Olympic gold in the 100m since 2004.

The race was particularly emotional for Lyles, who dedicated his win to his late high school track coach Rashawn Jackson, who passed away earlier in the year. Lyles fought back tears as he spoke about his coach’s belief in his capabilities as a runner. Lyles now looks ahead to the men’s 200m event, in which he is the reigning world champion and will compete on Tuesday.

Earlier this year, Lyles had expressed his desire to win four gold medals at the Paris Olympics. Winning the 100m has now put him “on Cloud 9” and given him the confidence to tackle the upcoming races. Despite struggles with mental health in the past, Lyles has had an outstanding year on the track and remains focused on achieving his goals.

With this thrilling victory in the 100m, Noah Lyles has set the stage for an exciting competition in the men’s 200m as he continues his quest for Olympic glory.
