Tragedy struck off the coast of Fairfield on Saturday as one person lost their life after being pulled from Long Island Sound. The incident occurred near Lighthouse Point and Penfield Reef, prompting a quick response from Fairfield police and firefighters after reports of two individuals struggling in the water. While bystanders were able to rescue one of the two people, a male remained missing. A collaborative effort between Fairfield first responders, Westport Police and Fire Departments, Trumbull police, and the U.S. Coast Guard was launched to locate the missing person.
Utilizing a helicopter, the Coast Guard successfully discovered the person in the water and brought them to shore. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead upon arrival. At this time, the age and identity of the deceased individual have not been released.
