Increasing far-right violence in Rotherham results in injury to police officer – updates from the UK

Police officers are struggling to contain the violence outside a Holiday Inn Express hotel in Rotherham, where rioters have smashed windows and thrown objects, injuring at least one officer in riot gear. The disorder has been described as far-right thuggery by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In response to the ongoing unrest across parts of the UK, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia has issued a travel warning to Malaysians in the country, urging them to stay away from protest areas and follow guidance from local authorities. Rioters in Middlesbrough have also caused damage by smashing windows of houses and cars, prompting clashes with residents.

The chaos has led to a surge in arrests across England and Northern Ireland, with more than 100 people taken into custody so far. The government has reassured that police have the resources needed to deal with the disorder, while plans are in place for swift arrests, charging, and sentencing to deter further violence. Courts are prepared to sit for 24 hours to handle suspects, with no plans to call in the army at this time.

The situation remains tense, with protests, counter-protests, and violent clashes erupting in various cities. Authorities are working to restore order and ensure the safety of residents and asylum seekers affected by the unrest.
