Manizha Talash, Afghanistan’s first female breakdancer, has overcome numerous obstacles on her journey to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Inspired by a video she saw, Talash began training with the Superiors Crew in Kabul, where she found a supportive community that encouraged her to pursue her dreams despite societal expectations. Facing threats and challenges, including attacks on the gym and the rise of the Taliban, Talash eventually fled to Spain and was granted asylum. With the help of friends and the Olympic Refugee Foundation, she earned a spot on the Refugee Olympic Team and is now preparing to compete in breaking, one of four new events at this year’s Olympics. As “B-girl Talash,” she will make history and represent Afghanistan on the global stage, showcasing her talent and resilience. Talash’s journey highlights the importance of perseverance and the power of sport to transcend adversity. As she competes for gold, she hopes to inspire others and show the world the strength and determination of refugee athletes. With the support of the Refugee Olympic Team and the international community, Talash is ready to seize this opportunity and make her mark at the Paris Games.
