Maggie Steffens, captain of the U.S. women’s water polo team, is mourning the loss of her sister-in-law, Lulu Conner, who passed away just two days before the start of the Paris Olympics. Lulu Conner, the younger sister of Steffens’ husband Bobby Conner, died at the age of 26. Steffens posted a heartfelt tribute to Lulu on Instagram, sharing photos that captured their special bond and the support of their families. While it is unclear how Lulu Conner died, Steffens described it as a medical emergency and expressed how much joy and light she brought to everyone.
Despite her grief, Steffens competed in the Olympics and helped the U.S. women’s water polo team secure a spot in the quarterfinals. She scored two goals in a match against Greece, but admitted to feeling out of body and trying to embody Lulu’s spirit and energy. Flavor Flav, who became the official sponsor for the U.S. water polo teams, also paid tribute to Lulu Conner by receiving a clock necklace made by her as a gift. The clock read “Made with love by Lulu Conner” and showed his support for Team USA.
Steffens and her family are leaning on each other and the support of their loved ones during this difficult time. They honor Lulu’s memory by living their lives like she did – with love, joy, and positivity.
