In a recent interview, British poet Simon Armitage shared his thoughts on various topics, including his dream sandwich, least favorite word, and favorite bird. Armitage described his ideal sandwich as a comfort food made with plastic white bread, butter, Shropshire Red cheese, and jalapeƱo peppers. He also talked about his dislike for the phrase “bus replacement service” and his love for all birds, especially the cuckoo.
When asked for his most controversial pop culture opinion, Armitage simply stated that abstract art is rubbish, without elaborating further. He also shared some humorous advice he received, such as not wearing anything diagonal as you get older and wearing a big hat if you can’t fight. Armitage revealed that he is currently binge-watching “House of the Dragon” and has enjoyed shows like “Better Call Saul” and “The Sopranos” in the past.
The poet also mentioned a book that he rereads frequently, Poetry in the Making by Ted Hughes, which serves as a source of inspiration for his writing. When asked whether he would rather die at the bottom of the ocean or out in space, Armitage humorously replied that he has not signed up for dying and would choose to live forever if given the choice. Finally, he expressed a preference for being portrayed in a biopic by Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone, and related to the swift bird for its ability to spend most of its life airborne.
