NBC Connecticut reports that FBI confirms bullet hit Trump’s ear in assassination attempt

FBI confirms bullet struck Donald Trump’s ear during assassination attempt

The FBI released a statement on Friday confirming that a bullet struck former President Donald Trump’s ear during an assassination attempt earlier this month at a campaign rally. This statement comes after FBI Director Christopher Wray suggested to Congress that it could have been shrapnel instead.

The incident occurred when a gunman, Thomas Crooks, opened fire from an elevated post near Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in one spectator’s death and two others being critically injured. Wray’s initial testimony sparked backlash from Republican lawmakers and Trump himself.

In response to the FBI statement, Trump accepted the apology, stating on social media that it was the best apology they would receive. House Speaker Mike Johnson also criticized Wray’s testimony, emphasizing that the video evidence clearly showed a bullet hitting Trump’s ear.

Sen. Lindsey Graham had sent a letter to Wray urging him to revise his testimony, stating that the bullet had indeed struck Trump’s ear. The FBI’s confirmation of the bullet hitting Trump prompted Graham to express that the FBI Director should not have made any other suggestions.

This story first appeared on NBC News and highlights the ongoing investigation into the assassination attempt on Trump. The House has even approved a resolution to create a bipartisan task force to further examine the incident.
