The BBC is implementing new consent settings for users accessing their AMP pages, allowing individuals to manage their preferences for data collection. These settings only apply to AMP pages and may need to be set again when visiting non-AMP BBC pages. The lightweight mobile pages are powered by Google AMP technology.

When visiting these AMP pages, some limited data collection is necessary for the web pages to function properly. The BBC stores essential information on the user’s device without their explicit consent. This information is stored in local storage to improve the user experience.

In addition to the strictly necessary data collection, users have the option to consent to optional data collection for personalized ads. By opting in, users allow the BBC to display personalized ads that are tailored to their interests, even when they are outside of the UK. Users can choose to reject data collection and continue browsing, though they will still see advertising that is not personalized.

Users can easily change these consent settings at any time by clicking on “Ad Choices / Do not sell my info” in the footer of the AMP page. This gives users greater control over their privacy and the type of advertising they are exposed to while browsing the BBC website.
