Ridgefield’s own Kieran Smith, fresh off his bronze medal win in Tokyo, is set to compete in the men’s 400m freestyle event at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Smith, a graduate of Ridgefield High School and former standout at the University of Florida, is looking to add another medal to his collection. Joining Smith in the pool will be Kate Douglass, another bronze medalist from Tokyo, who will be swimming in the women’s 4×100 freestyle relay. Douglass, originally from Pelham, New York, trained at the Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club in Stamford. Greenwich native Gretchen Walsh, along with her sister Alex Walsh, will also be representing the U.S. in the Olympic pool in Paris. The trio of swimmers with Connecticut ties are sure to make their mark on the international stage once again as they compete in a variety of events. With their past success and dedication to the sport, these athletes are poised to make their home states proud as they swim for gold in Paris.
