The second annual Shoulder Check Showcase in Stamford is set to attract some of the biggest names in professional hockey as they honor the memory of Hayden Thorsen, a Darien hockey player who tragically took his own life in 2022. The event, scheduled for July 25, will feature a celebrity game with NHL and PWHL stars participating as well as youth hockey teams competing at Terry Connors Rink.

Hayden’s father, Rob Thorsen, emphasizes the importance of reaching out to those who may be struggling, stating that one in three people are facing challenges. The event aims to show support and remind individuals that they are not alone, with the message being “because I’m right there with you.”

The showcase is designed to inspire people to check in on one another and create a supportive community where individuals feel comfortable asking for help when needed. Organizer Rob Thorsen stresses the importance of getting more people involved in spreading the message of support and unity.

Attendees will receive kits containing jersey patches, bracelets, and tips on how to effectively check in and support those around them. The event serves as a way to remember Hayden Thorsen while promoting mental health awareness and encouraging individuals to look out for one another. With the participation of NHL and PWHL stars, the Shoulder Check Showcase aims to bring the hockey community together in support of mental health and well-being.
