Billy Joel concluded his extended residency at Madison Square Garden on Thursday evening.

Billy Joel concluded his decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden with his 150th show, nearly 50 years after his first performance at the iconic New York City venue in 1978. He became the first music franchise at MSG in 2013, playing one show a month for as long as demand continued. Throughout his residency, Joel broke records for most consecutive performances and most lifetime performances, leading to banners being raised in his honor at the venue on Thursday night.

During his time at MSG, Joel was joined on stage by surprise guests such as Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Miley Cyrus. A new exhibit, “Defining Moments,” showcased memorabilia from Joel’s residency, including harmonicas and set lists. Fans were able to enjoy themed concessions and write messages to Joel at a photo station during his final concert.

Over 1.9 million tickets were sold to fans from all 50 U.S. states and more than 120 countries during Joel’s legendary run at MSG. In addition to his solo concerts, he participated in benefit concerts for Hurricane Sandy victims and 9/11 heroes. Joel announced his final show at MSG in November 2023, marking the end of an era for the iconic performer at the historic venue.
