Biden receives a call from Lamont expressing post-debate concerns

Governor Ned Lamont celebrated the receipt of a $38.9 million grant through President Biden’s legislative achievements, while also discussing Biden’s readiness to win a second term. The grant will be used to electrify the CTfastrak busway by 2027, replacing diesel buses with battery-electric buses.

Lamont raised concerns about Biden’s ability to win elections due to his age and poor debate showing. However, he defended Biden’s decision not to take a cognitive abilities test. The project is a response to a legislative mandate to shift the state’s transit bus fleet to zero-emission models by 2035.

The $86.6 million project will also install chargers in Hartford and New Britain to support the electrification of the bus fleet. Lamont, state officials, and other speakers highlighted the environmental and public health benefits of electric buses.

The event, held at the New Britain terminus of the busway, showcased the positive impact of infrastructure spending on communities, with the busway attracting developers and leading to a building boom in New Britain. Republican Mayor Erin Stewart praised the busway for revitalizing the city, with new apartment buildings and commercial developments within walking distance of the busway.

The project was funded by a mix of federal and state funds, highlighting the importance of investing in infrastructure to benefit communities and promote sustainability.
