New Haven police have made a breakthrough in a case that has shocked the community, arresting three individuals in connection to the shooting death of 16-year-old Joshua Vazquez in December 2022. Vazquez was riding his bike on Valley Street when he was killed by someone in an SUV.
The suspects arrested include 17-year-old Angelo Gibson, who has been charged with murder and various firearm-related offenses. Gibson’s mother, Latasha Brown, faces charges of hindering prosecution and criminal liability for acts of another/murder, as she was allegedly driving the car during the shooting. Ronald Miller, aged 59, has been charged with tampering with evidence.
During a press conference, police and city leaders urged the community to end the cycle of violence and put down the guns. The plea comes amidst a recent surge in non-fatal shootings in New Haven, with 16 incidents reported in the past 12 days, putting a strain on department resources.
The arrests mark a significant step in seeking justice for Vazquez’s untimely death and bringing closure to his family and friends. The police have assured the public that they will continue working diligently to ensure the safety and security of the community.
